Johanna

Hello! I’m a crunchy granola mom and an inspirational cat poster.  I am also disgusting positive. I love food, cats, octopuses, and eyes!

I am a mom to one handsome 4 year old boy! His name is Perseus. When I was pregnant I read a lot of Greek mythology. Also my family, and I were camping at Wheeler Peak, and we saw the Perseid Meter Shower. We try and watch that ever year now.

I’ve been a vegetarian for a year now. I decided to become a vegetarian for many reason. I choose it because the slaughter community is disgusting, I love animals, and for health reason. I love being a veggie. I feel great about what I eat, and the food I eat makes me feel great.

For a long time, since high school, I thought I was bi, but then I learned about pan-sexuality and have identified as a pan ever since. Love is love.

My educational goals are to become an optometrist, and I currently work at an ophthalmologists office. I am fascinated by eyes, and I love helping people. If I don’t become a doctor I want to be a stay at home mom that home schools her kids, has her own garden/farm, is off the grid, and sells my organic body products.

I have recently rekindled my love for writing, and Ashley decided to start our blog. We have been friends for almost two years, and plan on many many more years.

Well, for now, that’s all about me, I hope you enjoy what I write.

Ashley

Hi! I have no idea where to start, so let’s just dive in, I guess.

I have been all about animals for as long as I can remember. From the time I got my first dog when I was 2, my world has revolved around them. I always dreamed of being a veterinarian (I actually have my Bachelor’s in Veterinary Science, but never went on to vet school) and knew that no matter where I ended up in life, I’d be surrounded by animals.

This love eventually lead to me getting educated in animals rights, and back in high school, I stopped using products from any company that does animal testing. I’m not sure why it took me so long after that to become vegetarian, but I’ve been living meat-free for about 2 years now. My goal is to completely stop using any animal-based products by the beginning of 2018.

Although I could also be placed in the granola/hippie category with Johanna (and rightfully so), I do consider myself a “scientist” of sorts. I don’t believe that organic is better than everything else, and I am not anti-GMO or anti-vax or any of that. I don’t believe that lavender oil will cure your cancer, but I’m also not a huge fan of pumping a body full of medications when there are sometimes alternatives that can be less harmful and just as effective (we’re not really there yet in the case of cancer, obviously, but I hope that someday we will be). So I guess I’m somewhat of a contradiction, but I believe that there can be balance and happy medium between these two different “worlds”. I live somewhere in that gray area.

I am currently “Mom” to a heeler/shepherd mix, 5 rescue cats, 3 leopard geckos, a Kenyan Sand Boa, a hedgehog, a hamster, and a B. smithi tarantula. My “Rainbow Bridge” babies include a Pembroke Welsh Corgi, a Rottweiler, 2 rescue cats, 3 ferrets, 4 hamsters, 4 bettas, a cory catfish, 8 rescue rats, and 2 cornsnakes. Seeing them all written out like this probably makes me seem a little crazy, but that’s ok because I am and I wouldn’t change it for anything. These babies are my everything.

I think that covers most of it. If you have any questions or comments for either Johanna or me, please don’t hesitate to contact us! =)
